Cannabis and the Subconscious Mind
Being high on cannabis brings ideas in your subconscious forward into your conscious awareness. There are a lot of ideas in your subconscious that you are not aware of. Take your dreams, for instance, and the surreal things that happen within them. Dreams are essentially your brain’s way of processing subconscious ideas. Being high on cannabis is sort of like a conscious dream-where subconscious ideas become conscious in a somewhat mysterious and uncontrollable way. This can be both good and bad.
If you’re suffering from anxiety or depression, either consciously or subconsciously, cannabis can bring those negative thoughts forward, propagate and exacerbate them, making your anxiety/depression worse. But if you’re generally happy and creative, cannabis can bring more happy and creative thoughts forward from your subconscious, making you even happier and more creative.
Cannabis affects everyone differently and it affects the same people differently at different times depending on their current mental state. First, get a hold of your state of mind-your consciousness-while sober, without cannabis. Then, when you’re in a positive state of mind with your anxiety and depression under control, cannabis can aid in lowering your anxiety/depression even further-or at least maintain the same level-while increasing your happiness and creativity. If you first consciously address your mental health, then you can subconsciously reap the full positive effects of cannabis.
